The company operates its mining leases for mine gas extraction at all locations of closed mines in the Ostrava-Karviná mining district. The company purchases superfluous volumes of mine gas from active mines which the mines are incapable of utilising for their own needs. The company is engaged in survey, extraction, distribution and sale of mine gas, all on the basis of appropriate licences and authorisations.
The gas is delivered to selected customers through the company’s own local pipeline network. Automatic mine gas scavenging stations are operated at closed mines. Sources of the gas are liquidated mine pits and surface boreholes into closed mine spaces. The company also ensures mine gas deliveries for its own cogenerating units. Operation of the mine gas pipeline network is controlled by the company’s dispatching centre.
In addition, selected customers are supplied with carboniferous mine gas via the company’s own gas pipeline. Carboniferous gas is extracted via boreholes from the surface that serve to the degassing of the rock massif in the areas with virgin coal seams. The areas were in the past explored by drilling in order to map prospective coal deposits.
Another important activity of the company is the provision of gaseous nitrogen supplies via pipeline network for active mines in the Karviná section of the district. Nitrogen is used for prevention of coal self-ignition and suppression of fire in mines. The nitrogen pipeline is controlled by the company’s dispatching centre.
